Marlboro is a cigarette brand familiar to almost any person in the world - very few people are not aware of the existence of the Marlboro Man living in the Marlboro country and smoking cigarettes. This symbol of masculinity turned out to be such a successful marketing move that the company is enjoying the benefits until now, although in many countries it is forbidden to advertise cigarettes directly. The brand originated in 19324 and was named this way because of the place the pant was located - Great Marlboro Street. The company was among the first ones to introduce cigarettes with filters in the 1950-s after a number of studies concluded smoking cigarettes without filters could lead to serious health problems. Marlboro is considered to be a brand intended for men, but in fact at the very beginning of its existence it was offered to women with e slogan going "Mild as May". The campaign was not very successful and the sales of cigarettes never lived up to the company's expectations. The brand re-emerged several years later and this time was aimed at men making Marlboro one on the top cigarette brands in the US and internationally. Marlboro bran is associated with sports sponsorship and Formula One in particular.
